ASSESSMENT

The qualification is rated as Level 3 on the National Qualification Framework. It is similar to Level 3 qualifications, such as NVQ Level 3, Advanced GNVQ, and A-Level.

There are no formal entry requirements for the examinations. Candidates should have good reading, writing, and math skills and the proper knowledge and work ethic for a Level 3 position.

The Transport Manager’s CPC consists of one unit and four modules. Each of the four modules focuses on a specific skill area. They meet the requirements of Regulation (EU) No 1071/2009. The European Parliament and the Council set this regulation on 21 October 2009.

The CPC Road Haulage syllabus has been completely updated. This change is due to new European Union laws from December 4, 2011. As a result, the CPC Qualification now covers National and International Road Haulage Operations in one qualification.

The four modules are:

  • Managing Business Operations
  • Managing Drivers
  • Managing Compliance and Risk
  • Managing Transport Operations

Paper 1 Knowledge Test – Multi-Format Response

Paper 1 is a closed-book assessment, meaning no supporting resource is admissible during the assessment.

The assessment will last for 2 hours

The pass mark for this assessment is 70%

Paper 2 Knowledge Application in the Workplace – Case Study Assessment

Paper 2 is an open book. Only learning material provided by the approved assessor is admissible in the test.

Questions related to case studies were pre-published in this syllabus and covered during the training.

  • Managing Drivers
  • Managing Compliance and Risk
  • Managing Transport Operations

The assessment will last for 2 hours 15 minutes.

The pass mark for this assessment is 50%

Candidates must pass papers 1 and 2 to achieve a Level 3 certificate of professional competence for Transport Managers.

The government has a helpful page for future transport managers. It explains what to expect when starting a Transport Manager CPC course.

CPC REFRESHER COURSES

For those who already hold a CPC

You should undergo CPC refresher training to stay updated on changing legislation and regulations. Ideally, training should occur every 3 – 5 years after obtaining your professional certificate.

This refresher training supports the need for ‘continuing professional development’ for transport managers. This requirement is now mentioned in the Statutory Guidance from the Senior Traffic Commissioner. The DVSA also now considers refresher training when assessing an operator’s compliance.

Action LGV PCV Training Ltd offers a two-day Managers CPC Refresher course to update you on the current requirements. This course is not a replacement for the entire course.
